Melissa Bray

An author, economist and former Commonwealth Treasury senior executive with experience as a freelance journalist, Melissa has worked on taskforces, reviews and inquiries covering competition, the financial system, tax, COVID-19 and productivity and has been a policy adviser to two Federal Treasury Ministers.

A member of the committee of the Carillon Society of Australia and editor of its magazine, Melissa is passionate about sharing the stories of the diverse group of talented musicians who play Australia’s three carillons, and in raising awareness of these unique instruments. 

Melissa's first book Australian Carillonists contains the stories of the musicians who play Australia’s carillons, and was Highly Commended in the 2025 ACT Literary Awards

She is currently working on a children’s book about the National Carillon and co-authoring a book containing profiles of Australian women in economics over the past 200 years.
